The Case for Optimizing Your Site for Mobile

Let’s face it, it’s a wired world.  As our handheld devices gain increasing bandwidth, space, and more powerful networks, users are increasingly turning to their mobile devices.  It’s a convenient way to access the information when you need it.

According to new data from Shareaholic, mobile traffic has jumped up to 16% of overall traffic with forecasts to continue to grow.  According to data from over 200,000 publishers, this reflects a 27% increase overall.

Mobile may not be a significant portion of traffic just yet, but users already feel quite strongly about mobile sites.  According to Google, 67% of users are more likely to buy from mobile optimized sites.  And 61% of these same users will move on to another website if it isn’t optimized for mobile use.

If you’re not paying attention to your mobile traffic, you may be left behind in the dust.  As handheld devices continue to improve, their growth will only continue.  If your site isn’t optimized for mobile use, you may find your competitors gaining your share of online business instead.
